Our product is a hit with players - ⚡we’re growing fast!

While we have bespoke designed tools and world-class technologies to make running the business easier and more efficient, we’ve also needed to grow the team to keep up with customer demand while continuing to deliver an exceptional player experience.

Part of that experience means verifying that our policies, procedures, and controls are being deployed correctly and are effective. To do that, you’ll have unfettered access to our outstanding team to measure and validate internal output while producing valuable reports and feedback to ensure we are always improving.

If you’re able to bring modern auditing wizardry to a nimble, talented, and fast-moving team in a start-up environment, this is the place for you.

This is a hands-on senior management role that is located in Gibraltar and will report to the Co-CEOs and Board of Directors. Your remit will be to grow and oversee the Internal Audit Department.

Responsibilities

Core & Operational

  • Working closely with the Head of Compliance & MLRO and other departmental heads, ensure that all our policies, procedures, and controls, meet and adhere to all applicable criteria established by all our regulating entities, which currently includes Great Britain’s Gambling Commission and the Gibraltar Gambling Commissioner.

  • Conduct annual formal audits of our policies, procedures, controls, and their effectiveness with particular attention to AML, Safer Gambling, and Marketing.

  • Submit summary reports for all regular audits, which will contain findings and suggestions for improvements. Your findings will contribute directly to the improvement of existing policies, operational processes, and system developments.

  • Manage auditing documentation, versioning, and availability to the team.

  • Structure an ongoing team workflow to review specific accounts groups, dip sampling random accounts, and dip sampling the work of staff responsible for executing our policies and procedures. This workflow must look at the ongoing procedural adherence and correctness of decision making.

  • Escalate cases in accordance with our escalation procedures that may require another look (or a closer look) upon your review. The Internal Audit Department is a key final line of defence.

  • Be a key contributor to our monthly compliance forum, which includes all relevant stakeholders across the organisation to ensure that any compliance-related updates and issues are understood, discussed, and agreed together in a collaborative manner. Your audits and ongoing work are vital feedback data points to provide visibility and spur action where necessary.

  • Manage the relationships, where necessary, for audits with external partners. You will work closely with them and liaise internally to ensure that the deliverables are completed on time, on budget, and to satisfaction.

  • Work with the technology function on the annual information security audit and penetration test.

  • Verify that our training materials are fit for purpose and adequately cover the topics necessary for procedural adherence. This may also involve quality checking to ensure there are no discrepancies between training materials and procedures.

  • Liaise, where necessary, with regulatory bodies to ensure their compliance-related queries are satisfied.

  • Subscribe to regulator newsletters and prominent news sites to follow any compliance-related announcements and glean learnings from them.

  • Look for ways of speeding up and improving internal audit capabilities to ensure a broader preventative safety net to bring possible issues to our attention as soon as possible.

  • Spot check app and website functionality from time to time to ensure everything is behaving as expected. While the development team have a robust set of automated testing and workflows, dip sampling from time to time can be helpful.

  • Collaborate with our BI & Analytics team to build and expand our automated report suite, data processes, and alerts to set your team up for success. This may include contributing to our data quality initiative that looks at both whether data is working and whether it is working as expected.

  • Grow the internal audit team over time. For new hires, you will be responsible for creating detailed job descriptions, onboarding packs, and for fully participating in the recruitment process to bring on a new member of your team.

  • Guide and mentor members of your team to ensure that they are set up for success and are fulfilling their responsibilities to the best of their abilities.

  • Ensure that all staff have received their mandatory and applicable training to carry out their functions.

Strategic

  • Take a high-level, strategic view of how we are ensuring our players and business are protected by the measures your team is setting out and how the business is currently structured and operating. Working with senior staff, you should suggest improvements that can be agreed and implemented for a longer term view.

  • Identify upcoming and anticipated risks to the business.

  • Define strategic KPIs and reports that measure our policy adherence and correctness, grouped by severity.

  • Suggest operational, product, or technical changes that might be beneficial to bring efficiencies to compliance practices while ensuring a great player experience. This may include integrating third-party systems and tools that can help us improve or speed up existing practices.

Requirements

Education & Qualifications

You must:

  • Have had experience in an auditing function where you have conducted both formal audits and worked on internal quality measures for procedural adherence.

You should:

  • Possess a deep understanding of the online gaming industry, particularly with respect to AML, Safer Gambling, and Marketing.

  • Ideally have ICA accreditation for AML. If you do not have it, we may ask you to complete training as part of our training and professional development measures.

Experience

You should:

  • Have previously occupied a senior auditing role and/or similar positions.

  • Have proven experience at a senior level to build and lead people teams.

  • Understand how to transform internal auditing practices of an existing organisation and mature a growing one.

  • Have experienced how to effectively roll out internal auditing frameworks in a way that will be readily understood and adopted by the organisation as a whole.

  • Know how to present information to different audiences, namely: general staff updates, senior team members, and executive leadership / board members.

  • Be proficient with tech like JIRA and Google & Microsoft productivity tools. A lot of what we do is technology-driven and we constantly look to leverage new developments to help improve everything.

Personal Characteristics

You should:

  • Exude transparency, openness, and fairness. These are incredibly important cultural points if everybody is going to follow suit.

  • Be an expert communicator in both written and verbal mediums. This role may include public speaking when presenting to the whole company as part of our regular all-hands and town hall meetings.

  • Be obsessed with details and optimisation. The Head of Internal Audit needs to scrutinise everything to ensure that we are following our outlined practices, protecting players, and protecting the business.

  • Thrive in a start-up environment; there’s always a lot happening but you’ll be surrounded by an incredibly talented team that’s always pushing for growth.

  • Be driven and motivated by building. This is a rare opportunity to help shape the internal audit foundations of an organisation that is maturing. Although we already have solid frameworks, this is your opportunity to come and inform how compliance can grow and change with the company.

  • Be very organised. There are a lot of moving parts with this role, so someone that can bring order and structured thought is important.

  • Be curious. We want someone to turn over every stone in the interest of doing what’s best for the business!

  • Be comfortable working through the details (DIY) but also enjoy higher level strategy and execution. Teams will grow as the business grows, but senior personnel are expected to balance operating at all levels.

  • Flourish by working independently or in a collaborative team environment. A lot of this role is going to be you identifying and determining what should be done. We have a clear strategic roadmap but exactly how that is delivered with your area of speciality will be something we depend on you to define every day.

  • Be flexible with shifting priorities and timelines; we are still a start-up, which means that one of our strengths is responding to new opportunities quickly.

  • Inspire teams and always lead by example.

  • Speak English fluently. Having other languages and exposure to many different cultures will be beneficial for building rapport with an inclusive team.
